10 Top Vegan-Friendly Cities
Last Updated April, 2021
NOTE: HappyCow has decided to not update up the world's top ten most vegan-friendly cities list this year due to the pandemic.
The positive news is that in spite of the most closures of vegan restaurants of any year on record, there were also plenty of new vegan restaurant openings offsetting the number of closures by over 30%. We were pleasantly surprised to see that there are more vegan restaurants in the world today than there were at the same time last year.
Although there has been a net gain in vegan restaurants globally, 2020 was a year we lost some iconic vegan restaurants, many of which had been open for twenty to thirty years.
Vegan restaurants in cities which rely most on tourism for their business have had some of the greatest number of vegan restaurant closures and these same cities have seen fewer (if any) openings of new vegan restaurants to offset the losses.
We are waiting for the dust to settle before continuing to tally up all of the vegan business losses this year. As many vegan restaurants continue to shut their doors, we want to use this page to encourage you to support your local vegan restaurants, as those standing need your support more than ever before.
November 11, 2019 was our 20th HappyCow anniversary (see the video of our birthday celebration), and over the past year, the number of vegan restaurants added to HappyCow has grown substantially, and the interest in veganism continues to grow exponentially. Ten years ago on HappyCow, around this time of year, there were 625 fully vegan restaurants listed. Today, there are over 8100 vegan restaurants listed, with many more vegetarian and other vegan-friendly listings on the site. While the number of vegan options worldwide is skyrocketing, in some cities the overall number of pure vegan restaurants has plateaued due to the increased availability of veg-options. Vegan restaurants often need every customer they can get to stay afloat.
Love to travel and eat vegan food? We've compiled a list of the top 10 most vegan-friendly cities worldwide! This list is determined by four main factors: the number of vegan restaurants in a five-mile radius in the most vegan restaurant-dense area in each city, the number of vegan/vegetarian/veg-option restaurants in the same five-mile radius, vegan restaurant count to population density, and our impression of the over-all vegan-friendliness of the city (availability of festivals, meetups, & community).
#1 London
Photo of The Canvas - London by alinek
Unlike other cities, the London vegan restaurant explosion continued throughout 2019. London was the first city on HappyCow to surpass 100 completely vegan restaurants in 2017, and presently has 125 vegan restaurants in a five-mile radius within the city, and 152 fully vegan restaurants citywide. According to The Vegan Society's larger survey, the number of vegans quadrupled from 2014–18; in 2018 there were approximately 600,000 vegans in the UK, equivalent to 1.16% of the British population. Veganism continues to become a mainstream lifestyle in London, and this city takes veganism to a new level.
London has an abundance of vegan-friendly stalls, bakeries, cafes, smoothie bars, and even the UK's first vegan cheese shop called La Fauxmagerie. When in London, you are never more than a tube stop away from anything vegan you might desire. London's vegan pizza scene continues to flourish, with restaurants like Brighton transplant Purezza, and Young Vegans Pizza Shop in East London. The Vurger Co, a healthy plant-based burger joint with amazing sides and shakes opened its second location in Canary Wharf, and has it sights set on expansion to the Middle East and beyond. The acclaimed 222 continues to inspire. The two locations of the world's first vegan chicken shops, The Temple of Seitan, continue to thrive in London with their signature fried plant-based chicken and mac & cheese. Ethnic favorites include Itadakizen Japanese Macrobiotic restaurant, Zionly Manna with delicious Caribbean / African food, Andu Caffe on the east side for Ethiopian.
If you crave something sweet, try Vida Bakery, vegan doughnuts at Crosstown Doughnuts Vegan (the vegan version of this doughnut company opened last year in Marylebone), or sample the amazing selection of vegan ice cream at Yorica. Within a few minutes in the Camden Market area, you can walk to five different vegan restaurants and food stalls including Young Vegans Pie Shop with their fantastic pies and desserts, VBurger if you crave a tasty vegan burger, Rudy's Dirty Diner with American vegan fare, and The Magic Falafel for your falafel fix. Vegan activist Earthling Ed opened his popular vegan non-profit Unity Diner last year.
The UK's largest vegan restaurant, Norwich-based, three-story eatery Erpingham House, opened this year, serving hot drinks, juices, and lunch, as well as a restaurant that becomes a cocktail bar at night. New York vegan chain By Chloe continues to expand with two UK branches in Oxford Circus and Covent Garden, offering English classics like shepherd's pie and tofish & chips. Vegan formula one racing champion Lewis Hamilton opened the first location in London of a vegan burger chain called Neat Burger.
The word vegan can be seen all over the city, on the streets and in the tube stations, and there are so many vegan events in London now that it can be a challenge to keep up.
Vegan food shopping is a breeze in London, as there are loads of health food stores with vegan products, plus eleven veg stores listed on HappyCow including GreenBay in west London, Plant Based Supermarket in East London, and four zero-waste grocery stores including Harmless, BYO, and Pipoca Zero Waste Vegan Store. For those interested in raw foods, Paradise Unbakery is a perfect choice for gourmet raw delights. Vegan apparel can be found at The Third Estate. London is even home to a fully vegan hair salon The Rabbit Hole Vegan Hair Parlour.
International chain Pizza Hut added a full vegan menu, and KFC will trial vegan or vegetarian chicken in the UK later this year and already offers a vegan burger.
Veganism continues to be one of the UK's fastest-growing lifestyle movements, and this is certainly reflected in London's massive vegan scene. With the incredible number of superb quality vegan restaurants, the word "vegan" appearing throughout the cityscape, the number and quality of vegan events, and the sheer number of vegan products that can be found at mainstream stores, London, England remains our top pick for the world's most vegan-friendly city.

#2 New York City
Photo of P.S. Kitchen by Graham123
With its incredibly diverse variety of cuisines, New York is considered by many to be the international food capital of the world. New York's vegan scene continues to flourish, boasting 111 vegan restaurants in a five-mile radius of the city. P.S. Kitchen features an artisanal menu of small and large plates, desserts, and bar drinks. Some other spots for delicious, affordable, fast and tasty eats include the Vegan Food Court, which hosts the second location of Marty's V Burger's three locations, and the second location of V Spot from Brooklyn, all under one roof.
If you are seeking an upscale experience, try Avant Garden, for delectable choices, specializing in upscale, contemporary, fine vegan dining. Hangawi and Hangawi's sister restaurant, Franchia Vegan Cafe offers spectacular vegan Korean/Asian fusion food. If you are in the mood for French vegan food, Delice & Sarrasin serves amazing vegan crepes and vegan versions of other French classic dishes. When roaming the lively streets of Chinatown, be sure to check out Bodhi Kosher Vegetarian featuring Chinese dim sum. If you make it uptown to Harlem, try the upscale Seasoned Vegan restaurant featuring fine Caribbean cuisine and an organic juice bar.
New York City has numerous vegan bakeries including Erin McKenna's, a vegan sweets shop (Confectionery!), and a raw dessert shop (Rawsome Treats). Vegan shoe store Moo Shoes caters to your vegan feet. The city that never sleeps is becoming more vegan every day, and you will be able to find anything you crave here.

#3 Berlin
Photo of EmmaPea Vegan Food and Bar by Dianakey
Although the number of vegan restaurants in Berlin seems to have plateaued more recently, the vegan scene in Berlin continues to grow and thrive, and Berlin upholds its reputation as an international vegan destination. The number of vegan restaurants within a five-mile radius around Berlin has grown to an astounding 62, and an additional 397 vegetarian and veg-option restaurants are listed on HappyCow. The word "vegan" is visible on restaurant signs throughout the city. Berliners are familiar with the widely accepted and practiced vegan lifestyle, and it is incredibly simple to find options throughout this progressive city. From stellar pizzas at La Stella Nera, world-class vegan döner kebab at Vöner der Vegetarische Döner, Vedang's two branches which serve vegan burgers and fast-food, creative gourmet cuisine at Lucky Leek or Kopps, to healthier dishes and raw cakes at Manafood, you can find any type of vegan dish you are craving.
A must when dining in Berlin is AtayaCaffe, Berlin's highest-rated vegan restaurant with African and Italian influences and a cozy living-room style interior plus a sunny terrace. Their vegan brunch and dinner on the weekend are highly recommended, and exceptional menu items include the African bowl, fresh gnocchi and ravioli, rich and creamy tiramisu, and organic Italian coffee. If you are in the mood for ethnic cuisine, Vietnamese-style restaurants have spread around the city over the past few years. Top-rated 1990 Vegan Living has Vietnamese tapas-style dishes including delicious mock meat and tofu plus great cocktails, and Quy Nguyen - Vegan Living serves delicious south Vietnamese fare. Other vegan Asian cuisines are also thriving in Berlin, including Secret Garden for vegan sushi and dumplings, Element Five for vegan Asian tapas/fusion cuisine, Feel Seoul Good which serves traditional Korean dishes in vegan versions, including soups, dumplings, bibimbap bowls, Korean pancake, kimchi, and vegan sushi rolls, and li.ke which offers Asian style tapas along with some main courses including dishes from Cambodia and Laos.
If you are seeking a place to enjoy brunch, Cafe Vux is one of the least expensive but has excellent quality food. If you want a quick vegan burger or quiche, check out Emmapea Vegan Food and Bar and FREA, a French/German fusion restaurant opened earlier this year to rave reviews, making all of their food in-house, from sourdough bread to sauerkraut to kefir, and they serve food using seasonal, organic, and regional farm produce. It is also a zero-waste restaurant. The mini-chain Swing Kitchen opened two stores in Berlin offering completely vegan and partially fair trade/organic burgers in the city center. Yoyo Foodworld is a seven-year-old classic, offering very affordable fast-food in the east of the city and is considered the oldest vegan fast-food restaurant in Germany.
If you're still craving sweets, you can get your vegan doughnut fix at one of Brammibals Doughnuts three locations or check out vegan French pastry shop Be Sweet. Balaram Eis serves incredible peanut vegan ice cream with pieces of chocolate, peanuts, and salted caramel.
Berlin's vegan scene continues to thrive and expand, and it's an awesome vegan-friendly city.

#4 Los Angeles
Photo of SunCafe by LisaVeneriStewart
Although Los Angeles may be best known for Hollywood celebrities, including a number of vegan ones (Billie Eilish, the NBA's JaVale McGee, Joaquin Phoenix, Alicia Silverstone, and Casey Affleck, to name a few), Los Angeles is also a vegan mecca, boasting 49 fully-vegan and another 190 vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurants in a five-square mile area. You won't have any trouble finding delicious healthy (or less-than-healthy) options throughout this large city. LA is known for its wide variety of international vegan cuisines, including 19 vegan Thai restaurants (we recommend Arraya's Place and Satdha), two vegan Ethiopian restaurants (Rahel Ethiopian Vegan Cuisine, and Azla Vegan), a mouth-watering vegan cheese restaurant (Vromage), an upscale gourmet vegan Japanese restaurant with two locations (Shojin), and the second location of vegan Vietnamese favorite Au Lac. Vegan cheese pizza and vegan mock meat toppings can be ordered at an increasing number of Italian restaurants throughout the city, or you can choose to stick with entirely plant-based Cruzer Pizza. Vegan burgers and other vegan options are available at most restaurants around the city.
LA is also home to iconic vegan musician Moby's Little Pine vegan bistro, serving upscale Italian/Mediterranean fusion dishes (100% of the profits go to various animal causes); and also to celebrity chef Tal Ronen's wildly successful Mediterranean fusion restaurant, Crossroads. New upscale vegan restaurants that have opened more recently include Nic's on Beverly, Matthew Kenney's Double Zero upscale vegan pizza restaurant from New York, and Matthew Kenney recently revamped the 150-year-old Parisian brand/bakery Ladurée's Beverly Hills branch menu to be completely vegan (in 2020, but partially reverted 2021). Some other superb vegan bakeries include Donut Friend's second location, Erin McKenna's Bakery LA, and Berkeley, CA transplant Cinnaholic for vegan cinnamon bun treats. Vegan bars/restaurants including Beelman's and a nearby quirky restaurant/bar with great American/fusion food, The Dankness Dojo By Modern Times Beer, continue to thrive.
Newer additions to the Los Angeles vegan scene include two new vegan burger joints including two locations of Monty's and VowBurger.
Although these options are spread out over a large area of the city, it's no wonder why LA is often referred to as a vegan haven.
#5 Toronto
Photo of Bloomers by DeniseC
Toronto has long been known in the vegan scene for one of the largest vegetarian events in North America (watch our Toronto Veg Food Fest video here), and the number of vegan offerings in this city continues to increase by the week.
Bloomers, a Toronto classic, serves delicious meals and recently started serving brunch. Bloomers donuts have won multiple awards in Toronto, and their great success has led them to open a new, smaller location on Queen.
Canadian vegan fast-food chain Copper Branch is evolving into a dominant force in the vegan fast-food world in many Canadian cities including Toronto. Their mushroom-based meat is incredible. Try the delicious Shitake Teriyaki Burger or the Shitake Teriyaki Sandwich. Within the past six months, three Copper Branch locations have opened in Toronto and more in the outlying areas. The third outpost of vegan fast-food Globally Local recently opened in Toronto to huge crowds, and they serve fast-food, vegan style. Their Maple Breakfast sandwich and strawberry milkshakes are divine.
With its six locations, Fresh is perhaps the most popular vegan chain of restaurants in Toronto, and they recently opened a Los Angeles location. They converted their menus from vegetarian to vegan this past year. Highlights include the Goddess Bowl, Scramble & Smash, and their decadent desserts. Toronto is also filled with create-it-yourself vegan protein bowl restaurants like Urban Herbivore and Kupfert and Kim with seven locations.
Yam Chops is a vegan butcher that is very popular in Toronto's West End, with delicious house-made "meats" like the General Tso Chicken and Korean "beef". Hello 123 is a cozy and casual restaurant, and their Irene's Massive Breakfast is a hearty breakfast treat.
For an upscale vegan experience, Planta is a top choice (be sure to try their lettuce wraps which you can see in this video) and you can also try their casual offshoot called Planta Burger which offers vegan burgers, crab cakes, and milkshakes. The newest addition to the Planta restaurant family is Asians fusion restaurant Planta Queen, with pineapple fried rice and General Lee's Cauliflower as some of their favorites. Another great upscale choice is Rosalinda with their gourmet Mexican-influenced dishes including the roasted eggplant (which you can see in this video), and Awai, a highly rated high-end vegan restaurant in Toronto closed, but they relocated and opened as Avelo with the same quality and experience, and is still one of the top restaurants in Toronto. Our final upscale restaurant pick is Lov which opened a Toronto branch recently. The name stands for "Local, Organic, Vegetarian," and the cuisine is billed as botanical. Dishes include vegan poutine, grilled cheese sandwich, and waffles and pancakes topped with fresh fruit.
Although a Toronto trend is the opening of more expensive vegan restaurants, if you are seeking a more affordable dining option, Vegwood opened recently offering a small menu of sandwiches and tofu ribs. Their jerk "chicken" sandwich on coco bread is a favorite. If you are into ethnic foods, the highly-rated Vegan Extremist features superb Indian/Thai/Asian fusion cuisine. For Jamaican favorites, One Love Vegetarian will satisfy you with the tastes of this tropical island.
If you like your desserts more traditional, check out the two locations of Bunner's Bake Shop and Sweet Hart Kitchen. Are you seeking vegan shirts, shoes, purses, wallets, and accessories? The Imperative is the place to go. For vegan meats, cheeses, and other vegan foods, check out Good Rebel grocery store.
Toronto's vegan scene has come a long way in the past few years and continues to grow.
#6 Warsaw
Photo of Vege Miasto by k-girl80
The number of vegan options continues to grow in 2019, with 50 vegan restaurants now in a five-mile radius, and with most of those within just a one-mile radius. The density of vegan restaurants in Warsaw makes it incredibly convenient to walk from restaurant to restaurant. Warsaw's famous vegan burger joint Krowarzywa's added its fifth location, based upon its success of having been voted twice as the "Best Burger in Warsaw," beating out all competing meat burgers, and now carries the famous Beyond Burger as do several other restaurants in Warsaw. Another new burger joint called Warzywiarnia is quickly becoming popular.
The city has two spectacular vegan sushi restaurants, Edamame and Youmiko Vegan Sushi; an excellent vegan Italian restaurant, Leonardo Verde; three ramen restaurants, Uki Green and two locations of the world-class vegan ramen restaurant, Vegan Ramen Shop; and a number of other classic restaurants including Vege Miasto, and its new larger and more elegant sister restaurant Caffe Miasto, which serves amazing breakfasts with a dozen options including tofu scramble and pancakes. Lokal Vegan Bistro and Vege Bistro also showcase vegan versions of traditional Polish dishes such as pierogi (dumplings), golabki (cabbage rolls), and Schabowy (meat cutlets) and newcomer Vege Malpa is expanding, already with two locations and superb Polish and fusion lunch options. For outstanding Mediterranean-influenced fusion food, with its four locations, Mango Vegan is a popular choice, and Momencik is still one of the top-rated cafes in Warsaw, serving Mexican-inspired burritos and nachos.
There are also a growing number of excellent middle eastern/falafel restaurants including FalafeLove, with its two locations, Tel Aviv Urban Food with three locations, Falafel Beirut, Veg4seasons, Falafel Full, and Falafel Zudi. Vegestacja offers superb vegan ice cream. If you are craving Asian/Chinese food, Soy Soy is a great choice. The latest vegan restaurant additions to Warsaw include International/fusion cuisine restaurants No Problem vegan restaurant/music bar and Bistro Zjeść. More and more restaurants are adding vegan options to their menus and earlier this year, the Beyond Burger premiered in Warsaw and has since been available in many stores and restaurants in Warsaw and throughout Poland. Many new vegan options are available in stores, including products made by Polish companies that previously specialized in other foods.
If you are seeking desserts with the healthiest ingredients in the city, Słodki Bez is a fine choice.
Physalis confectionery creates superb to-order cakes, pies, pastries, and macaroons. Warsaw has two vegan grocery stores, Evergreen and TerraVege; a vegan and organic certified wine shop, Solvino Bio; a new vegan shoe store, Ananas; and even two vegan nail salons, Salon Wisla & Nailed It.
Within a five-mile radius, HappyCow has over 150 listings for veg-friendly options in the city of Warsaw, and this city's vegan scene continues to flourish and grow.

In the same building, you can find the new and highly popular Ichiza Kitchen and Teahouse, a teahouse specializing in shojin ryori-style food. Top-rated Aviv serves delicious Israeli cuisine, and if you are in the mood for gourmet, artisanal pizza, check out Virtuous Pie. They offer a bowl with various sauces to pick from and they make the drinks in-house including kombucha, kefir, and ginger beer.

Top-rated American/European fusion restaurant Farm Spirit has exquisitely prepared and presented small plates, and higher-end Epif, a restaurant and pisco lounge, is inspired by the Andes region of South America.

Portland is a very hipster and eco-friendly city, and within a five-mile radius, there are 46 fully-vegan restaurants, 26 vegetarian restaurants, and 185 veg-friendly restaurants. Portland's high density of vegan establishments means you won't have to travel far to find what you are looking for, and several more vegan restaurants are scheduled to open in the next few months.

#8 Bangkok
Photo of May Veggie Home in Bangkok by earthville
Entering the top ten this year is a city in a country known as the "Land of Smiles", and the quality and complexity of Thai food can certainly put a smile on any face. Being vegan in Bangkok is a breeze. Tropical fruit stands and fresh markets are plentiful in this city, and due to its predominantly Buddhist background, most restaurants have solid vegan options on their menu. Traditional Thai cuisine is composed of vegetables, but if eating at a non-vegan restaurant, be sure to tell your server "no fish sauce". Fish sauce is a very common ingredient in Thai cuisine. Another tip is that if you order "hot" in Thailand, as your ordered food will light your mouth on fire.
The number of purely vegan restaurants, called "jay" food restaurants in Bangkok, has grown substantially the past few years, with 42 vegan restaurants currently listed on HappyCow in this bustling city, and another 67 vegetarian restaurants. Although the majority of vegan restaurants in this city serve Thai cuisine, Bangkok has incredible quality food, and for westerners, the value is tremendous. You are a Tuk Tuk ride away from some of the world's finest food we have found.
Among the city's vegan offerings include Nourish Cafe connected to Martial Art Gym, perfect for a filling and delicious lunch or dinner after a workout. Favorite dishes include the Garlic Pepper Tofu Bun and Burmese Tea Leaf Salad. If you are craving dessert, the original Veganerie at the Mercury Ville mall is one of the world's finest vegan bakery/ice cream shops (See our Veganerie video here), and its massive success spawned three other locations around Bangkok which focus more on vegan meals. Try the BLT Wrap, Mac and Cheese, and the Spinach Vegan Cheese Bake. International fusion vegan food restaurant Vistro serves globally inspired cuisine like tacos, nachos, and Thai noodles. They have amazing sweets like vegan donuts, ice cream, a superb chocolate brownie, and raw cakes.
Barefood Bangkok is a deli and shop producing plant-based nut cheeses and preserved and fermented vegetables and fruits. They offer a few hearty international fusion cuisine meal options such as burgers, sushi rolls, hummus, and lasagna. If you are interested in a modern, casual-nice restaurant on two floors with a high ceiling and plenty of seating, Broccoli Revolution is for you. This restaurant also serves a variety of international fusion dishes such as quinoa-broccoli burger, taro fries, pasta, and cakes. They also offer vegan cheese, smoothies, and cold-pressed juices, and due to the popularity, they now have three locations.
In the mood for an old American style cafe? Bonita Cafe and Social Club is a social gathering club offering tasty vegan food and drinks. The Raw Pasta is healthy and delicious. Part of the largest vegan restaurant chain in the world, Loving Hut's two Bangkok locations have a variety of Asian/Thai food options, from dumplings to curries. May Veggie Home offers Thai food, East Asian dishes, and some western ones. Favorite dishes include Tom Yam soup and Cauliflower Spicy Wings, and their menu includes everything from spring rolls to sushi rolls. Their vegan ice cream and cakes are exceptional.
Feel like ordering food to wherever you are? Vegan Crush Food Delivery service serves vegan meals made from whole, unprocessed ingredients using low sodium and oil. They serve different menus every week. Many of their ingredients are made in-house like pickles, patties, mayonnaise, dips, sauces, and cheese,
Bangkok even has two vegetarian grocery stores (Jondee and Veggie J), and numerous health food stores stocked with vegan products.
You haven't had truly amazing Thai vegan food until you have eaten in this city, and due to the rapid increase in the number of vegan restaurants and options in this city, and the abundance of fresh food everywhere, Bangkok has become an incredible city for vegans.
#9 Tel Aviv
Photo of Vivida by Shaharkichler
Israel has the highest percentage of vegans globally, with an estimated 5 to 8 percent of the entire population being vegan, an estimated 400,000 people and growing. Many of these vegans inhabit Tel Aviv. Most of the 36 fully-vegan restaurants in Tel Aviv serve a combination of Israeli / Middle Eastern / Mediterranean cuisine with some western influence. The first vegan cafe in Tel Aviv, Anastasia, has excellent main dishes and raw desserts and is very popular throughout the day. Four One Six, an all-vegan modern New York-style bar and restaurant, makes their own vegan "steak" and has fabulous desserts. Opened this year, Hativonit J17 and Vivida are quickly becoming favorites in Tel Aviv.
If you are in the mood for gourmet raw food, check out Neroli Organic Juice Bar and Rawfood Diner. Hatool HaYarok has some of the city's best vegan pizza, topped with house-made cashew cheese.
Meshek Barzilay Deli offers salads and hot dishes that you can eat inside or in their outside section. They also have a coffee bar with vegan cakes, a juice bar, and products such as gourmet vegan cheese, spreads, bread, wine, organic produce and more. Next door is Meshek Barzilay vegan restaurant.
If you're after a quick bite, try the popular veggie fast-food and diner-style restaurant Goodness. For vegan fast-food that is not fried, check out Nature Boys, and Alegria is a top pick for salads, vegan cheeses, and sandwiches.
The city also has 2 vegan grocery stores, Taam L'Chaim - Taste For Life, and Makolet Teva, a vegan shoe/bag store (Vegan Mind), and one of the world's only vegan chocolate shops (COCO Vegan Chocolate).
Due to the density of the vegan population, variety of quality restaurants, and the city's vegan mentality, Tel Aviv upholds its reputation as one of the world's vegan capitals. The Israeli Defense Force continues to provide vegan meals and leather-free boots and helmets to vegan soldiers. International pizza delivery service Dominos offers vegan cheese at all of their branches in Tel Aviv and throughout Israel.
Tel Aviv is blessed with numerous fresh juice places dotting the city.
HappyCow's Tel Aviv has 40 vegan, 44 vegetarian, and 171 veg-friendly eatery options. Most of these restaurants are concentrated within a 1-mile radius of the city center. Israel has the most vegans per capita and the vegan food options in Tel Aviv are incredible.
Check out HappyCow's Ken Spector as he counts down Tel Aviv's top 5 vegan restaurants based on HappyCow reviews.
#10 Prague
Photo of Mist by Ben-Cooper
With a population of only 1.26 million people, Prague comes up in the top five of most vegan restaurants per capita in the world. Although Prague has 53 vegan restaurants listed on HappyCow within a five-mile radius, most of these restaurants fall within a 2-mile radius. Just a few years ago, the majority of vegan restaurants in Prague were comprised of the seven Loving Huts that you can find throughout the city, but over the past couple of years, Prague's vegan scene and the variety of vegan restaurants have grown rapidly. Highlights in this beautiful, small city include Bistro Střecha ("roof" in English) which offers delicious and inexpensive vegan, primarily Czech cuisine, and is owned by a worker cooperative where all who work there can eventually become members. This socially conscious cooperative offers jobs to underprivileged people who are having difficulty finding a job, such as former prisoners, and the homeless.
Chlebíček is a shop and a tiny bistro where you can buy and eat typical Czech open sandwiches ("chlebíčky"), which are very popular in Czechia at all kinds of events. Forrest Bistro is a new bistro/café/restaurant which offers a daily lunch menu in addition to the regular menu. The food is a fantastic fusion of many world cuisines and occasionally includes Czech cuisine. The restaurant also makes some of the best coffee in town. An excellent vegan burger place opened called Pastva.
Moment is one of the early vegan restaurants in Prague and is best known for its tasty brunch, featuring scrambled tofu, bagels, shawarma, and quesadillas.
In the city's center is Forkys fast food bistro with international food like Beyond Burgers, bowls, kebabs and hot dogs.
Futher from city center is Eaternia, a small vegan cafeteria offering cheap and delicious Czech and international cuisine including burgers, hot dogs and desserts.
Blue Vegan Pig Shop offers delicious American style doughnuts which are very popular in Prague. If you are into raw vegan gourmet cuisine, the three locations of bistRAWveg will fill your craving.
Legendary pub Belzepub which is famous for its delicious vegan burgers is going fully vegan in 2020.
Due to the vast number of vegan choices and the density of vegan restaurants in this small city, Prague is a superb choice for vegan travel.
